MOUTH WATERING CHEDDAR BAY BISCUITS ( like Red Lobster biscuits)

I don’t know about you but I could make a meal out of these biscuits! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE them!  I remember years ago, (when I could afford to go to Red Lobster before the 6 kids) I would order an appetizer for my meal because I knew I would not have much room left after eating half a basket of biscuits!  I am sure, I am not the only one out there with a total lack of discipline when it comes to the cheesy, garlic buttery taste of this heavenly manna! If you love them like I do, then I don’t think you will be disappointed with my copycat recipe.  WARNING: this recipe makes 16 buttery biscuits so make sure you have family or friends over so you don’t eat the whole batch!

cheddar biscuits

INGREDIENTS FOR THE DOUGH:

4 c. flour

5 t. baking powder

1-1/2 t. salt

1 t. garlic powder

2-1/3 c. milk

2/3 c. melted shortening

1 c. sharp cheddar shredded

MELT TOGETHER FOR BUTTER SAUCE:

1/2 c. butter

1 t. garlic powder

1/4 t. salt

1 t. parsley

DIRECTIONS:

Mix together all the dry ingredients listed above under “dough”.  Stir with a fork before adding the milk and shortening.  Add the milk while continually stirring the dough.  Make sure there are no lumps.  Then add the melted shortening.  Lastly, add the cheese and stir thoroughly.  Measure dough into a 1/4 cup measuring cup and drop onto a parchment lined cookie sheet or silicone mat if you have one.  Bake at 450 degrees for about 12 minutes or until the biscuits just begin to turn light brown on top and on the bottom.  Melt the butter and dry ingredients listed under “butter sauce” in the microwave for one minute.  Immediately brush with the butter sauce and enjoy!
