Ok, so if you count the water, ice, and ice cream salt, I guess it is more like 6 ingredients but who is counting?  This ice cream is so easy to make that ANYONE can do it!  It it so rich and creamy that it may become addictive! There is just something about fresh churned ice cream that has me melting!  Can you imagine?  It is even made with ingredients that you can actually pronounce!  Don’t worry you won’t have to call a chemist to figure out what is in this ice cream!  It is three very simple ingredients, heavy whipping cream, sweetened condensed milk and cocoa powder.

We rarely purchase any ice cream anymore since there are so many simple recipes to make at home.  If you do not already have an ice cream churner no worries!  You do not have to churn this ice cream but you may want to purchase one for future recipes.

To find a good ice cream mixer it is as simple as purchasing one online or going to the large stores like Walmart or Meijer.  Although, they can be difficult to find in the midst of winter.  If you wish to buy an excellent ice cream churner at a reasonable price you can try this one.  I use it regularly and have not had any issues with the 4 quart churner although, I would not recommend the 6 quart   For $26 you could make all the homemade ice cream your heart desires.  If you have children at home, this is an excellent way to bond with them.  It is also an excellent way to encourage their creativity as they try making their own ice cream flavors.  If you are a new step parent I REALLY encourage making ice cream with your step child/children.  This will be an experience your new bonus child/children will NEVER forget!  Then BOOM!  All of a sudden, you are the coolest step mom or dad!  Yep, I am that step mom and am definitely not above bribing children with ice cream to make life a little sweeter and much more enjoyable!

4 c. heavy whipping cream

3 cans sweetened condensed milk

15 T. cocoa powder (dissolved in warm water)

Ice cream salt

small bag of ice

After measuring out the 15 T. of cocoa add just enough hot water to dissolve the cocoa powder.  Add the heavy whipping cream and sweetened condensed milk and stir until there are no longer any lumps.  Pour the ice cream mixture into a large storage container with a lid and freeze it overnight, if you do not have a churner.  If you do have a churner pour the mixture into the ice cream churner and place the lid on it.  Fill half of the bucket with ice and then pour the ice cream salt generously on top of all of the ice.  Add more ice and then more salt until the bucket is full.  The trick to getting firm ice cream quickly is adding enough salt.  I usually use 1/3 to 1/2 of the box of salt.  Place the motor on top, plug it in and forget about it.  When the ice cream stops churning it is finished.  It will harden even more after freezing over night.  Enjoy!

*Rocky Road Ice cream- add chopped almonds, walnuts, or pecans and mini marshmallows.  I also like to add mini chocolate chips in mine.
